Team Maverick Wins Big at Arkansas
      Trucking and Technician Championships

Maverick Transportation, LLC took home both individual and team honors at the Arkansas Trucking Championships held last week in Springdale, AR.

Maverick was awarded two first place individual trophies in Truck Driving portion of the Championship. Marcus Rush of Russellville, AR won the Flatbed division, which marks his 3rd consecutive year as a first place winner. He has been a Maverick driver for 4 years and is a member of Maverick’s Driver Advisory Council.

Ben Eby of Caldwell, OH placed first in the Straight Truck Division. Eby has a distinguished record at this event; he was the Grand National Champion in 2006 and finished first in the competition in 1998, 2000, and 2002. The current Maverick “Driver of the Year,” Eby has been a Maverick driver for almost 15 years.

At the competition Eby was also presented with the “Sportsmanship Award,” which recognizes one driver at the competition who epitomizes what a professional truck driver should be.

Both Eby and Rush will represent Arkansas and Maverick at the National Trucking Championships held in Pittsburgh, PA in August.

In addition to these awards, Maverick was given the “Small Team Award” for the second consecutive year, which is awarded to the company with the highest combined team score.

Sixteen trucking companies entered over 100 drivers in the annual competition. Drivers must be nominated by their employer and meet certain safety performance guidelines in order to compete. Each driver completes a pre-trip inspection, written examination, and a six-part driving skills course. The drivers compete in one of nine divisions identified by different truck and trailer combinations.

“Winning first place at our Arkansas Truck Driving Championship is a high achievement when you consider there are more than 80,000 people in our state who hold a commercial drivers license,” said Lane Kidd, association president. “This is the truck driver’s Olympics. They are the safest and best drivers on the road today.”

Held in conjunction with this event was the Arkansas Technician Championship, which is comprised of 11 heavy duty challenge categories as well as a written exam. Maverick diesel technician German Pedraza took home first place in the Tire division.
