Driver of the Year for 2008
John Dillon Is Honored for Outstanding Contributions to Highway Safety
ANN ARBOR, Mich., and ATLANTA - June 24, 2008 - Con-way Freight, a less-than-truckload (LTL) freight carrier and subsidiary of Con-way Inc.
(NYSE: CNW), today announced that one of its Atlanta-based drivers has been named 2008 Driver of the Year by the Georgia Motor Trucking Association (GMTA). John Dillon was chosen for the honor due to his long record of safe and courteous driving in the state. He received the award at the recent GMTA Safety Council Awards Banquet in Lake Lanier Islands, Ga.
"This prestigious award is a great honor and I commend John Dillon on earning it," said John G. Labrie, president, Con-way Freight. "John's exemplary record over 18 years on the road for Con-way Freight shows that he is truly committed to safety, which is one of our core values."
As Driver of the Year, Dillon was presented with a distinctive trophy and $500 cash award. He will also be recognized at the annual GMTA convention set for June 22-25.
"John Dillon has been a professional driver for more than 18 years and has logged 1.5 million safe driving miles. He has demonstrated safety, courtesy and an outstanding work ethic for Con-way Freight," said Guy Young, vice president, GMTA. All drivers who live in Georgia and drive for a motor-carrier member of GMTA are eligible to win the Driver of the Year designation. Eligible drivers must be nominated by their employers and each carrier is limited to one
nomination per year.
Dillon has worked as a professional truck driver for 23 years. A native of San Diego, Calif., he currently lives in Sharpsburg, Ga., and works out of Con-way Freight's Atlanta operating location. His typical route is linehaul to Knoxville, Tenn.
