Vermont Receives the EANGUS Al Schneider Memorial Award

GREEN BAY, Wis. and ALEXANDRIA, Va. (May 22, 2007) – Schneider National, Inc., a premier provider of transportation, logistics and intermodal services, and the Enlisted Association of the National Guard of the United States (EANGUS) today announced that the State of Vermont is this year’s winner of the prestigious Al Schneider Memorial Award.
Since 1991 EANGUS and Schneider have honored employers who have demonstrated outstanding support of the enlisted men and women of the National Guard. Vermont is receiving the Al Schneider Memorial Award not only because of its exceptional commitment to enlisted men and women, but because the state encourages other employers to follow their example.
Jack Copeland, director of strategic sourcing at Schneider National, will present the award on August 15, 2007 at the EANGUS 36th Annual Conference in Oklahoma City. “We’re honored to recognize employers who go above and beyond to support our nation’s servicemen and women,” said Copeland.

Schneider National was the first recipient of the EANGUS award in 1991. The award commemorates a rich tradition of National Guard support led by founder Al Schneider, who served on the Wisconsin National Guard and recruited fellow Guard veterans as his first employees. Today, Schneider National continues that tradition with a sincere commitment to the nation’s enlisted men and women. “More than 20 percent of our associates have military experience, so we understand how important it is to help them serve,” added Copeland.

EANGUS Executive Director, retired Master Sgt. Michael Cline, said that Vermont has been a champion of the Guard and Reserve. “Because of Governor Douglas’s leadership, virtually every agency director in our state government has demonstrated their commitment to the nations’ servicemen by signing the Five Star Statement of Support.”
Specifically, Vermont provides differential pay and full employee benefits during the duration of deployment. The State also gives members of the National Guard and Reserve full consideration for all state jobs, including those only advertised to current employees. In addition, Vermont provides services to the family members of enlisted individuals.
