Roehl Transport credits drivers for yet another national safety award

Already recognized as one of the safest carriers on the road, Roehl Transport recently added to a string of top industry honors for safety with a prestigious Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) Safety Award.

The award, based on an independent audit of the company’s DOT recordable accident record, is the latest earned over the past three years confirming Roehl’s superior safety performance. Roehl has also won top-level safety awards from the American Trucking Associations (ATA) for 2004 and 2005 (van and flatbed fleets), the Safety and Operational Excellence Platinum Award from Great West Risk Management four years running, and the ATA’s 2005 Excellence in Claims/Loss Prevention Award.

“The TCA award is not a just lucky coincidence,” Roehl Vice President of Safety John Spiros said. “Roehl’s recognition as one of the safest carriers in the nation in virtually every industry ranking reflects the skill and values of our drivers, supported by a unique corporate culture.” The company’s exclusive safe driving program compliments a corporate focus based on safety as its cornerstone value. Roehl’s safety performance is also self-perpetuating, Spiros explained. “Roehl’s safety record attracts safe drivers… pros who appreciate a company that consistently supports their own commitment to safety.”

Offering one of the top 10 driver pay packages in the nation and industry leading home time options further allows the company to hire and keep safe drivers. “With experienced driver pay comfortably in the $55,000 to $75,000 range and a dramatic increase in family time, over-the-road driving is a true profession. Today’s top drivers not only want to provide well for their families and be home to share in their lives, they want be healthy and whole, and keep other motorists safe too,” Spiros said. “The nation’s highways should be a safe work environment.”

The TCA award recognizes Roehl as one of safest carriers in the nation among those truckload companies that run more than 100 million miles annually. The company had only .40 DOT reportable accidents per million miles compared to an industry average of .58 for its large carrier division. Over 120 truckload carriers were evaluated for the 2006 TCA awards. Roehl also boasts one of the top DOT SafeStat scores in the nation that includes not just reportable accident data but also considers DOT inspection compliance and incidences of traffic citations/reports.
