Sitton Motor Lines Educational Partnership Helps Truck Drivers and
Family Members Earn College Degrees

A college education is very valuable in today’s world.  A degree enhances your lifestyle and opens many doors.  However, because of the cost investment and the need to earn a living, many see it as a dream that will never become a reality.  But what if scholarships reduced the cost of a degree?  What if you could earn a degree while you maintained a job?  A new program at Sitton Motor Lines of Joplin, Missouri will let you do just that.

An educational partnership between Sitton Motor Lines and Missouri Southern State University allows drivers and their immediate family members to earn a college degree.  Scholarships offered by Sitton significantly reduce or cover costs entirely for qualified drivers.  Coupled with these scholarship options and the affordable tuition at MSSU, the Learn While You Earn program is possible for everyone.  All full-time drivers at Sitton are eligible, as are immediate family members.  Scholarships will cover only one family member at a time.

Sitton Motor Lines is committed to sharing the burden of tuition costs with their drivers.  The company offers two types of scholarships: silver and gold.  Silver scholarships cover 50 percent of tuition costs and are available to the first 50 drivers to sign up for the program.  Six hours of courses are included the first semester, and up to twelve hours are included for all subsequent semesters.
In order for scholarships to be renewed each semester, the driver must maintain an average of 9,500 miles per month, a 2.0 grade point average, and still be employed at Sitton.  After meeting the silver scholarship requirements for one year, drivers can apply for a gold scholarship.  This scholarship will be awarded to the top 10 percent of applicants and will completely pay for up to twelve hours per semester and all textbook costs.

A number of online degrees from MSSU make it possible for those living outside the southern Missouri area to take advantage of this program as well.  Courses of study include law enforcement, general studies, economics and finance, marketing/management, nursing, criminal justice, accounting, international business and heath science.  Participants in the area can also elect to attend classes on site.

Sitton Motor Lines serves as an irregular route common and contract carrier throughout the United States.  Sitton is committed to retaining drivers by offering them the chance to enhance their lifestyles through a college education.  To find out more about the Learn While you Earn program, contact a Sitton recruiter at 1-800-533-4765 or visit www.sitm.com.
