Southern Refrigerated Transport Announces Acquisition

Southern Refrigerated Transport, Inc. (SRT) announced on January 14 that it has acquired 175 additional trucks. The transaction will begin immediately, bringing approximately 250 new jobs to SRT's Texarkana, Arkansas headquarters.

SRT Founder and President Tony Smith said the transaction will allow SRT to continue to grow and expand.

"This acquisition will allow SRT to increase its current operation and capture a larger market share," Smith said.

Smith recently relocated his business to Texarkana in August of 2006 after 20 years of operation in Ashdown, Arkansas. The driver-friendly headquarters along Interstate 30 comes complete with office space, driver facilities and a 38,000 square foot maintenance shop that's visible from the interstate. There's a lounge with vending machines and a microwave, so drivers can grab a quick meal.

Additionally, not only does the driver's lounge have a television, but it also comes equipped with wireless Internet access 24 hours a day, so drivers can stay up-to-date with the latest news and keep in touch with family. For drivers who just want to relax, the complex also has quiet rooms where they can do just that. The new headquarters offers many essential amenities, including showers as well as eleven sets of washers and dryers.

SRT provides long-haul truckload transportation services to customers in all
48 continental states plus Canada, supplying temperature-controlled, dry and hazardous material shipping.

"This acquisition will give us over 815 trucks, 1,200 trailers and will require over 1,100 employees to operate," Smith remarked. "We are pleased
to provide quality service to more customers."

Justin Smith, SRT Director of Operations and Tony Smith's son, expressed his excitement about the challenges this addition will bring.

"This will be good not only for SRT but for the Texarkana community as well.
Texarkana is a prime location for continued advancement in the transportation industry and we are excited to be a part of that growth."
