FedEx Custom Critical Wins Trucking Industry’s Top Safety Award
AKRON, Ohio, Oct. 19, 2006 – FedEx Custom Critical, Inc., a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX), has received the trucking industry’s most prestigious safety award, the President’s Trophy, from the American Trucking Associations (ATA). With this award, three FedEx operating companies have received the President’s Trophy; FedEx Ground and FedEx Freight have won the award in previous years.
The President’s Trophy is presented annually by the ATA to the transportation company with the best safety program for the previous year, taking into account the company’s safety record, safety programs and community outreach activities. It is presented to only one motor carrier in each of three mileage categories; FedEx Custom Critical received the award for the 25 Million to 100 Million Miles category.
“We’re honored that the FedEx commitment to safe driving has been recognized,” said Jack Pickard, president and CEO of FedEx Custom Critical. “This is the result of our employees and contractors ensuring that safety is the top priority for everyone on the road.”
FedEx Custom Critical contractors promote safety and industry education through a number of methods, including the following:
-- FedEx Custom Critical contractor Carroll Bean Jr. was one of 76 FedEx representatives at the 2006 National Truck Driving Championships in New Orleans. FedEx Custom Critical also had 33 contractors who competed in their state truck driving championships.
-- FedEx Custom Critical has more than 30 contractors enrolled in Trucker Buddy International, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping educate and mentor the nation's schoolchildren via a pen-pal relationship between professional truck drivers and children in grades 2-8. In March, FedEx Custom Critical contractors Carroll and Dora Bean were named Trucker Buddies of the Month by the organization.
