Maverick Driver Wins Grand Champion at 2006 Arkansas Trucking Championship
Maverick Transportation driver Ben Eby of Caldwell, OH, won Grand Champion in the Arkansas Truck Driving Championship competition recently held at the Northwest Arkansas Convention Center in Springdale, AR.
Eby scored the most cumulative points in the total of 4 categories: pre-trip inspection, written exam, personal interview, and the driving skills test where he placed first in his class (Straight Truck). As first place winner and Grand Champion, Eby will also represent Arkansas, along with eight other drivers, in the National Trucking Driving Championship in New Orleans, LA in August.
Thirty trucking companies entered 171 drivers in the annual state industry competition. Drivers must be nominated by their employer for the annual competition and meet certain safety performance guidelines in order to compete. Eby has been a professional truck driver for over 30 years and has logged more than 3.7 million safe driving miles.
Eby has previously qualified for the National Truck Driving Championship, having finished first in the Arkansas competition in 1998, 2000, and 2002. He has been a Maverick driver for over 11 years.
“The national competition showcases the safest and most professional truck drivers in the United States. It is the highest professional achievement that a commercial truck driver like Mr. Eby can obtain,” said Lane Kidd, president of the Arkansas Trucking Association.
Other companies entering drivers included such major carriers as J. B. Hunt Transport, ABF Freight System, FedEx, and Wal-Mart Stores.
