David Oren named president of Dart Transit Co.

Eagan , Minnesota -- A long-planned leadership transition will take place October 1 at Dart Transit Company when David D. Oren becomes company president. Donald G. Oren has been president and will now serve as Chairman of the Board.

The move brings the third generation of the Oren family into Dart’s presidential office. Founded in 1934 by Earl Oren, Don’s father and David’s grandfather, Dart grew rapidly in the 1980’s when Don became president and focused the company on pioneering high cube trailer service. Under his leadership, Dart lead the trucking industry into longer trailers, first with 45 foot trailers, then to 48’s and eventually to 53’s.

David helped pioneer thin-wall trailer designs when legal trailer width changed to 102 inches. He holds patents on features related to the design of thin-wall extra-high cube vans.. He spearheaded development of Dart’s proprietary D-4000 computer system, and has overseen the sales planning, operations, marketing, and contractor recruiting efforts for the past several years during another period of significant growth.

David started with Dart as a youth in 1975, working part time as a general laborer in the company’s trailer repair shop. He has learned the trucking business from the ground up, rising through the ranks to become Executive Vice President and now President. “Dart is a vital company today, thanks to well-trained employees and a motivated contractor fleet,” David said. “My job is to build on our success by pursuing improvements with the help of our customers, employees, and contractors.”

“Seeing the company’s leadership transition into the next generation is a dream-come-true for me,” says the senior Oren. “Now is the right time to do it. David is well prepared and the transition will be easy because he has actually handled the responsibility for several years.” Two other sons, Dan and Brad, are also part of Dart’s management team and continue in their current roles.

Don is in robust health and plans to work from Dart’s corporate office in Minnesota . As Chairman of the Board he will work on the broader issues that face the company and the trucking industry.

Dart Transit Company ranks 53 rd on Transport Topics list of Top 100 Carriers, and specializes in truckload dry van freight. It offers 48-state, dedicated, and regional service with independent owner operators. It offers asset-based rail service through Dart Intermodal Inc., logistics and brokerage services through Advantage Transportation Inc., and storage services through Dart Advantage Warehousing Inc. and Dart Portable Storage Inc.
