Dart Transit Issues Challenge to Trucking Companies

Join the World’s Largest Truck Convoy to set records and raise funds

DALLAS- John Paul Chandler climbed down from a Dart Transit “big rig,” beaming from ear to ear. After sitting in the driver’s seat and honking the horn, then going on a 20-mile tour of Dallas , the Special Olympics Texas athlete offered a big “thank you” to Dart Transit for his exciting trucking experience and for their support.

Special Olympics Texas is thrilled to announce that Dart Transit Company - Dallas Operating Center  has signed on as this year’s first sponsor for the 2005 World’s Largest Truck Convoy Ò at Carl’s Corner to benefit Special Olympics. The one-day celebration of the trucking industry, scheduled this year for September 24, will include four convoys in Texas : Dallas /Ft. Worth (Carl’s Corner), Houston , Midland and San Antonio .

Dart presented Special Olympics Texas with a sponsorship check for $5,000, signing on for their second year as an event sponsor for the convoy at Carl’s Corner. Not only will they support the Truck Convoy as a sponsor, but they will also have more than 35 drivers in the Convoy and their staff will serve as day-of-event volunteers.

Elaine Briles, Director of Safety, CFS, at Dart Transit says, “Dart Transit is founded on the entrepreneurial spirit of the independent contractor. We can’t think of a better ‘spirited’ group to support than Special Olympics. Much like the vision that Special Olympics has for their athletes, Dart’s vision is to improve the quality of life for the Independent Contractor.”

After pledging their support to the Truck Convoy and Special Olympics Texas, Dart Transit would like to issue a challenge to other trucking companies to get involved in the event. Registration is ongoing and there are many opportunities for sponsorships. Additional information on the convoys can be found at www.specialolympicstexas.org or www.worldslargesttruckconvoy.com.

Special Olympics Texas is a privately funded non-profit organization that provides year-round training and competition to more than 23,885 children and adults with intellectual disabilities in the Lone Star State .
