MB2 thrilled with new headquarters

MB2 Motorsports has experienced an array of changes during the last year, including a new driver, new sponsor and new car number. But one of the most exciting differences between this year and last is a new facility that the team moved into last October.

The 144,000-square foot complex, located in Mooresville, NC, has given the multi-team organization more than three times the space of its previous home in Concord.

“This is our third shop since MB2 Motorsports was founded in the summer of 1996,” said Jay Frye, MB2’s CEO and general manager. “Our first shop was in Mooresville, and when we look back at the size of that facility at 8,000 square feet and compare it to what we’ve moved into, it really hits home how far we have come in a relatively short period of time.”

The new, state-of-the-art MB2 headquarters includes a workout facility, pit stop practice area, indoor truck bay and a fan-friendly viewing area of the spacious race shop.

“The new shop is incredible,” said Sterling Marlin, who pilots MB2’s No. 14 Waste Management Chevrolet. “It’s amazing to think that such a short time ago this team was just starting off and working out of a tiny building. How far they’ve come is truly a credit to Jay Frye and this entire organization.”

Crew chief Doug Randolph uses a good example to show the difference between the new shop and the old one.

“You could almost fit last year’s entire shop inside the truck bay in this building,” explained Randolph. “That’s a big difference. Our biggest problem now is trying to find the people you need when you need them.”

Marlin hopes that with the new shop in place both of MB2’s full time NEXTEL Cup series teams will have plenty of space to work and the resources they need to find success on the racetrack.

“Buildings don’t win races,” said Marlin. “But I think you can tell by our move to the new facility that we’re serious about being a winning organization. We’re putting all of the elements in line to be as successful as possible and that’s an exciting place for us to be.”
