Cover Story
Maria and Juan Adams Jr. -Covenant Transport, Inc.
“When I first started hunting for trucking companies, Covenant just hit the spot,” says Juan Adams Jr., team driver for Covenant Transport. As a man whose dream was to become a professional driver, Juan diligently researched many companies to find the perfect one to partner with. He had driven deuce-and-a-half trucks while serving in the Marine Corps, then worked for a few years in a scrap yard before hooking up with Covenant, a company that would provide him with everything he needed to be successful.
Adams had been driving for Covenant for nearly eight years when his wife, Maria, followed in his footsteps and enrolled in driving school. After seeing firsthand the friendly atmosphere at Covenant and the great treatment her husband received, Maria couldn’t resist the opportunity to run with her husband as a team driver.
The couple is quick to point out the many outstanding qualities of Covenant. “Most of all, I like that they are very understanding,” says Maria. “Their main focus is keeping their drivers happy by getting us the miles we need and getting us home when we need it.”
“Our supervisors are great, too,” adds Juan. “If the dispatchers can’t get something worked out for us, most of them have no problem bringing their supervisor in to get us
where we need to be.”
The Adamses make their home in Petersburg, TX, but they are planning an important move. Since Maria first began driving, her dream has been to build a new house for herself, Juan and their two children. On the day of the interview for this story, the couple learned that they had been approved to build on three acres they own in Cleveland, TX. “This would not have been possible without the help of Covenant and our eldest daughter, who has taken care of her younger sister while Juan and I are on the road,” says Maria.
Juan says his motivation for hard work comes from wanting his children to have the best he can give them. While Maria also finds joy in providing for their children, she has another source of strength. Maria says that her mother was very supportive when she graduated from driving school. Although her mother passed away over a year ago, Maria still sees her as a source of constant inspiration.
Maria says her greatest accomplishment has been staying accident-free for the three years she’s been driving professionally. She and Juan plan to stay with Covenant until they retire from the road. “We’re proud to work for Covenant,” concludes Maria. “They care about us. If that wasn’t the case, we wouldn’t be there.”
The staff of Over the Road and Pro Trucker magazines would like to wish Juan and Maria continued success with Covenant Transport.
