Driven Women
Not just 19
GG—I was shocked to see how computer-literate truckers are! I just finished my training, and I brought my laptop on the road with me thinking I could catch up on email and read about what’s going on in the world. I was stunned to find out that I’m not the only one with a laptop! I thought truckers were only good for restaurant and CB talk, not technology talk. Who knew that truckers talk?
I am a little more educated than most drivers, but I wasn’t thinking when I approached another driver and told him how impressed I was that he knew how to use a computer. He looked as though he would put a fork in my eye, then said, “Lady, how did YOU get a CDL?” I won’t make any more assumptions.

Georgia Peach, you have just been caught stereotyping out loud.
Today’s truckers are more in the know about economic, political and industry issues than ever before—they have to be. They get information from the radio, Internet, Intranet, network news, trade publications, newspapers, message boards, and yes, from one another over the CB. Ask any trucker how the issues in Iraq are affecting their jobs and businesses, and you’ll be amazed to see how current and intelligible they are.
Truckers do indeed communicate through a variety of channels, Georgia Peach, not just 19.
Keep all 18 rolling safely,
GG
