Maverick to acquire Specialized Division

Maverick USA announced the impending purchase of Schneider National’s Specialized Division. Schneider Specialized is the largest specialized glass carrier in North America. The transaction enables Maverick to expand its services to include national specialized glass transportation capabilities and allows Schneider to focus on its strategy of developing global transportation and logistics solutions.

KLLM drivers qualify for NTDC

KLLM Transport Services drivers Paul Brownlee (four-axle division) and Steve Jones (five-axle) finished first in their respective categories at the Mississippi Trucking Association Truck Driving Champion-ship held in Tupelo. Both drivers will represent KLLM and Mississippi at the National Truck Driving Championship in New Orleans in August.

Marten recognizes Drivers of the Month

Thirty-five drivers for Marten Transport were named Drivers of the Month for May. Qualifying drivers must meet a minimum of 10,500 miles for that month, have no accidents during the month and have 100 percent on-time deliveries. This month’s drivers averaged 14,066 miles for the month of May.

Prime boasts state champ

Prime Inc. had two drivers take home trophies at the 39th Missouri Motor Carriers Association’s State Truck Driving Champion-ships. Thomas Miller, a partner with Prime for seven years, took first place in the Sleeper Berth class and will go on to represent Prime and Missouri at the 2006 National Truck Driving Championships in New Orleans. Duane Grimme earned a second-place trophy in the Tank Truck class.

C.R. England boosts driver pay

C.R. England announced a pay increase for its drivers, effective Aug. 1. On short-haul loads, company drivers will receive as much as a 66 percent increase and independent contractors will get up to a 72 percent in-crease per mile. Based on the new pay scale, company drivers will now earn up to 50 cents per mile and independent contractors earn up to $1.50 per mile.

Ace Doran drivers receive awards

This year’s winner of the National Safety Council’s Joseph M. Kaplan Safe Driver of the Year Award went to Mike Davis of Ace Doran Hauling & Rigging Co. Davis started with Ace Doran as an owner-operator in 1980 and has driven over 5.2 million miles. In other company news, Terry Eshleman received the Truck Driver of the Month Award from the Ohio Trucking Association, the same day he received notice that he had been named winner of the National Safety Council’s Distinguished Safe Driver Award. Decker Truck Line drivers earn honors

Steve Alliger, Dave Bush, Dean Filmer, Josh Filmer, Mark Hullerman, Eric Jensvold, Rick Lackner, Mark Phillips and Greg Thede represented Decker Truck Line at the 2006 Iowa Truck Driving Championships. Hullerman was awarded second place in the Five Axle Flatbed Division.

Transport Service to acquire Mission assets

Transport Service Co. of Oak Brook, IL has signed an agreement to purchase the chemical transportation assets of Mission Petroleum Carriers. The purchase will allow Trans-port the opportunity to expand its chemical operations in the Gulf States, and for Mission to develop their light and crude oil operations throughout the Southwest.

Celadon completes Highway Watch training

Melton driver shines at championships

Melton Truck Lines driver Sammy Belvin took first place at the Oklahoma Truck Driving Championship. Belvin will represent Melton and Oklahoma at the National Championship in New Orleans in August. In other news, Melton was awarded second place in the ATA’s National Safety Award for Flatbed/ Local Division.

Millis Transfer raises per diem rate

Millis Transfer increased the company’s per diem rate from 8 cents per mile to 10 cents per mile. Drivers can also earn two additional weeks of vacation during their first year with the company.

 

Graebel announces 2005 Drivers of the Year

Long-haul drivers Tim and Lisa Shebelski of Mosinee, WI earned 2005 Driver-of-the-Year honors from Graebel. The Driver-of-the-Year award is the highest recognition in Graebel’s All-Star Fleet program, which each year recognizes long- and short-haul drivers for their professionalism, customer service, dedication and performance.

Anderson Leasing, along with its partner carrier, Bay & Bay, invites current drivers to learn more about its highly successful lease-to-own program. As a special incentive, Anderson Leasing is now offering its new lease operators an $1,800 discount. The company’s leasing packages include no down money and two leasing tiers: $1,350/month for slightly used trucks; under $2,000/month for new trucks.

 

Former Marine likes driving for JCT

Former Marine Bill Duckworth, a driver with John Christner Trucking, recently reflected on his second career after retiring from the military. “I had served in the Marines for 21 years and been on every continent but had seen only a few states,” says Duck-worth. “I love to travel, and driving for JCT gives me the opportunity to see America and earn a good living.” Duckworth enlisted in the Marines in 1969, serving in both Vietnam and Japan before retiring in 1990.
