Dart raises contractor pay again

For the third year in a row, Dart Transit contractors are receiving mileage pay increases, effective on April 1 and Oct 1. The increases are worth $2,400 to $3,600 or more per year, depending on miles driven and the contractor’s capacity type. Walt Newcomb was named Dart’s 2005 Contractor of the Year for Dart’s Eagan, MN Operating Center, while Woodrow Walker received the same honor for the Dallas, TX Operating Center. In other news, Joyce Jordan, executive vice president of Dart and chief operating officer of Dart’s Dallas, TX Operating Center, became the first woman to receive the Texas Motor Carrier Association’s Leadership Award.

Lowe’s salutes Schneider National

Schneider National was recently recognized for outstanding transportation service by Lowe’s, the second-largest home improvement retailer in the world. Schneider was named an Outstanding Distribution Center Inbound Van Carrier by Lowe’s for the third consecutive year at its annual carrier conference. Schneider National received the award for transporting Lowe’s products from their point of origin/manufacture to all 11 Lowe’s regional distribution centers throughout the United States.

USA Truck holds referral contest

USA Truck announced a new driver referral contest in which employee drivers will have the opportunity to win big screen televisions and gift certificates to their favorite stores. One lucky driver will have their choice of a new truck or $20,000. The contest runs from April 1 through Aug. 31.

Decker selects Drivers of the Month

Decker Truck Line named Joe Holmberg as its February 2006 Driver of the Month for the Reefer/Van division. John Hessling was selected as Driver of the Month for the Flatbed division.

Boyd wins ATA safety contest

Boyd Bros. was recently named the Alabama Trucking Association’s Safety Contest winner in the area of General Commodities Line Haul Division. “This award truly reflects the emphasis we put on safety here at Boyd,” says Betty Nix, director of driver personnel.

WSE honors Drivers of the Year

WSE Transportation announced that James Loveland was named Company Driver of the Year, and Jimmie Gilyard was named Owner-Operator Driver of the Year for 2005. Loveland has accumulated over 906,000 safe driving while Gilyard, who has spent 35 years with WSE, recently reached three million safe driving miles.

 

 

Warren Transport driver places No. 2

The TCA named independent contractor Dan Beber of Warren Transport as the nation’s No. 2 placing independent contractor in its 2005 Independent Contractor of the Year contest. The contest is designed to honor those independent contractors who best represent their profession through their safety record, their contribution to their companies, communities and industry.
