Driven Women

Men used to be men

GG—There aren’t many jobs left that a man can claim

as his own. I’ve been holding out hoping that trucking would still be a man’s domain, but it seems that women go out of their way to assume the role of a man and take over any job we do just to prove something.

Men used to be men, now we are the lowest form of beings walking the earth. And tell me, since when it is right to make special arrangements for a woman to do a job? If she can’t do the job, she shouldn’t do it!

I’m sick of being considered the only “unprotected” type of employee. And I’m tired of having to wait to see if a woman gets the job before me in order to fill some sort of quota. I never, ever thought this type of @#%& would affect trucking.

Red Ball,

Indianapolis, IN

Trucking isn’t a man’s job, Red Ball, it’s a job. Women have to pass the same tests as the men. None of the women drivers that I’ve spoken with over the past 13 years would disagree with you; if they couldn’t do the job on their own, they wouldn’t do it. They drive because they are as addicted to the lifestyle as any man.

Furthermore, there are fewer and fewer men today who want a woman who’s completely dependent upon them, let alone one who would assume his identity. The sad reality is that there are still a few stragglers like you, as you say, “walking the earth.” One day, you will be just another extinct species. I’m patient.

Drive safe, Red. And don’t forget to wave when women pass you by!
