Driven Women

Diary of a trucker’s wife

Dear Diary,

What would happen if Alex were home every day? Would we have the same excitement about one another, or would our relationship fizzle? Could I adjust my lifestyle by having someone around all the time? I never thought I’d be thinking twice about having Alex home all the time! But after three years of being somewhat on my own, I kind of like my space. Is that bad?

Karyn M., South Dakota

Karyn, things will more than likely change when and if your husband comes off the road, but why worry about something that hasn’t happened, and may not for quite some time. And, the change may be for the better.

Just for giggles, ask Alex the following questions:

• Honey, why do you like driving so much? (find out what motivates him to stay on the road)

• Sweetheart, what frustrates you the most about your job? (gauge what it would take to get him off the road and when)

• And, darling, be honest. How much longer will I be able to do as I please without you under my feet? (schedule last minute shopping sprees and spa visits, pronto)

In the meantime, Karyn, make sure you have a generous cell phone plan, cherish your alone time, and make every minute count when Alex is home.

Pleasant dreams,

GG
