Up Front
Feeling hot, hot, hot
Unless you have spent the last six months in the tropics, you are like me in the sense that you are finally beginning to thaw out from what seemed to have been the harshest weather our country has endured in quite some time.
Personally, I am finding it hard to believe that any day now I very well may be complaining about the summer heat. Until that day, however, I am very excited that I do not have to bundle up before even thinking about going outside and even more excited about the fact that freight is very much on the upswing. The American and most of the world’s economies have taken massive hits. Needless to say, all of us in the trucking industry welcome the positive economic turnaround.
Ironically, for more than 30 years we’ve been hearing about the driver shortage and how the challenge of finding qualified drivers was only going to get worse. The fact that freight slowed down so much that it swung things in the other direction shows just how significant of an economic slowdown this has been.
I am optimistic that this current trend of rising freight and the need of fleets to hire more drivers is going to continue to climb. While our economy is not out of the woods by any means, we are on the path toward recovery.
Congratulations on your survival; now it’s time to reap the benefits!
