Proactive approach to better health

I recently participated in a workshop that focused on high blood pressure. An overwhelming number of drivers in the trucking industry deal with this issue on a daily basis. While it’s sometimes scary to look at our blood pressure numbers, I came away from the workshop relieved to learn about all of the solutions that are out there – and the number of solutions is growing.
Fortunately, many trucking companies have installed blood pressure monitor kiosks endorsed by the Healthy Trucking Association of America. As a result, more and more drivers can routinely check their blood pressure and make sure they are aware of potential warning signs and risks – before the problem gets out of control.
Deep down, we all know that if we take a proactive approach to our health challenges, we can overcome them, as long as we know what direction and steps we need to take. Thankfully, these resources are becoming more and more available. Throughout this issue of Over the Road, there are many articles offering advice on how to help you address different health issues, both physical and mental.
We’re all in this together, and while the economy is trying to figure itself out, it sure would be nice for us to all be healthier by the time it does turn around!
     Stay safe and healthy.
