Happy ‘Tanksgiving’ and Thanksgiving

The regional gas shortage that crippled much of Atlanta and a few other communities in the Southeast in late September and early October had an unusual side effect: it turned dozens of tank truck drivers into instant rock stars. Drivers hauling hard-to-find gasoline suddenly found themselves the most popular people in town as motorists literally followed them around like groupies as they made their deliveries. When the truckers reached their destination, they were greeted by dozens of other cheering motorists, many of whom had been waiting in line for an hour or so for the big moment.
In this issue, we turn the spotlight on the tank/bulk niche of the trucking industry in a special feature called “Happy Tanksgiving” (see page 18). We can’t promise that you’ll always be treated like a rock star just because you pull a tanker, but we’re pretty sure you’ll find the article full of useful information and insight if you’re unfamiliar with the tank/bulk side of the business or considering a move in that direction.
Along with wishing you “Happy Tanksgiving,” all of us at Over the Road and Pro Trucker also want to take this opportunity to wish you and your family a Happy Thanksgiving. Here’s hoping you’re routed home so you can share it in person with your family and friends, but no matter where the road takes you this holiday season, stay safe and stay healthy.
