Up Front
Happy birthday, America!

Cookouts, fireworks, apple pie and trucking. Isn’t trucking as American as apple pie? Trucking has become much more a part of Americana as recent shows such as “Ice Road Truckers” (see page 36) and “Trick My Truck” have exposed millions of households to the trials and tribulations truckers face on a day-to-day basis.
As a proud father of a 2-year-old, I’m reminded how appealing trucks are. My son is fascinated by them; whether it’s seeing them on the road or playing with his trucks at home, he simply loves them. Just recently, he got to sit in a truck and take it all in!
Why is it that after childhood, trucking is not as popular for many as it was before? Since I've grown up around the trucking business, I have a hard time understanding this. What’s not to like? Biggest wheels on the road, loud sounds, open road. With all of the recent TV exposure, is trucking making a rebound in the “coolness” department?
I sure hope so. I think it’s time that mainstream America started taking more notice of the professional truck driver, the all-stars of the highway, and how important their jobs are to our lives.
I wish you all a safe journey. Thanks for your suggestions and feedback, and please keep it coming! Until next time,
