Driven Women

Dumb trucker

Dear GG—I’m not part of generation X or Y and don’t see why a trucker needs to know about computers. Forget the Internet. When I want a job, I look in your magazine and I get one. When I need to buy something, I go to the store and I buy it. I own my own truck and do all my own paperwork. I handle my finances the old fashioned way, with paper and pencil, and I have people to help me when I need it.
I guess I’m just a dumb old trucker.

     Amee B., Arizona

You’re not dumb at all, Amee. You are ignorant and filled with self-pity and self-righteousness. This makes you a sour woman with a CDL, probably spreading your negativity across the country to anyone who doesn’t know enough to squelch your incessant whining. Unfortunately, you are not alone.
Complacency kills, and it is contagious. You’re doing yourself a disservice by restricting yourself from information, resources and knowledge (and fun stuff). Don’t spread this ugly disease, because there is another way—it’s called curiosity.
There’s still hope, Amee! Be curious and adventuresome, get online (the Internet) and see what’s out there. You can always pull the plug, but at least you can say you tried.
     Cheers,
     GG
