Dart awards contractors for 20 years of safe driving
Dart Transit awarded Dart contractors Larry Wilson, John Borofka and Juan Rivera with its 20-year safety award—a custom-made scale model of a tractor-trailer cast in pewter. “During their long professional driving careers, they have achieved amazing safety records paralleled by few,” says Dart President Dave Oren. “They help make our highways safer for everyone.”

CFI honors September Drivers of the Month
CFI announced the following monthly driver award recipients for September 2007: Company driver—Charles Spitler; Company team—Bruce Rhodes & Brian Rhodes; Contractor driver—John Newkirk; Contractor team—Gary & Nora Bulen. Each driver and team is automatically nominated for the 2007 year-end award in their respective category. In other news, CFI was named Carrier of the Year by Michaels Stores, the largest arts and crafts retailer in the United States.

Schneider recognized as leader in driver health
The American Sleep Apnea Association (ASAA) presented Schneider National with a prestigious American Sleep Apnea Award. This award commends Schneider for the implementation of its detection and treatment program aimed at drivers who suffer from obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). In other news, Schneider received its second consecutive Environmental Excellence Award for demonstrating leadership in conserving energy and lowering greenhouse gas emissions from its transportation and freight activities. The award was presented by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s SmartWay Transport Partnership.

EPA sees Roehl red as green
Roehl Transport’s red semi-truck tractors are making a leading contribution to the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions from ground transportation industries, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Roehl recently received the agency’s SmartWay Excellence Award for the second year in a row in recognition of its efforts to make trucking more environmentally friendly. Begun in 2004, SmartWay is an EPA initiative to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from freight transportation exhaust (truck and rail) by 33 to 66 million metric tons within six years

Atlas Van Lines transports Red Skelton memorabilia
Atlas Van Lines and one of its agents, Shetler Moving & Storage, recently donated and coordinated the shipment of 23 pieces of Red Skelton memorabilia back to the Hoosier state, 10 years after the beloved comedian’s death. The shipment contained more than $1 million worth of original oil paintings by the Vincennes, IN native, from Rancho Mirage, CA to Skelton’s hometown. The paintings will eventually be available for public viewing in the Red Skelton Museum of American Comedy at Vincennes University. |
