Ace Doran driver earns top honor 

James Mike Davis of Ace Doran Hauling & Rigging was named Truck Driver of the Year at the National Safety Council’s Annual Conference in San Antonio, TX. Davis was previously honored as the National Safety Council’s Safe Driver of the Year and the Ohio Driver of the Year. During his 44-year career, Davis has driven over five million miles.

Mercer contractor wins chopper
  
Mercer contractor Dawn Beck won a custom Orange County Chopper given away by American Graphics Group at the Mid-America Trucking Show. Beck has been driving professionally for five years, and has been with Mercer since May 2006. She drives team with her husband, Chris. “Chris and I made up our mind that if we are going to be trucking, we would do it together, and I love it,” she says.

CFI honors drivers of the month 
       
CFI announced the following driver award recipients for March 2007: Company Driver—James McAfee; Company Team—Steven & Mohrea Anderson; Contractor Driver—Danny Thurman; Contractor Team—James & Frances Doty.

Roehl credits drivers for safety award  
     
Roehl Transport recently added to its string of top industry honors for safety with a prestigious Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) Safety Award. The award recognizes Roehl as one of the safest carriers in the nation among those truckload companies that run more than 100 million miles annually. Roehl Vice President of Safety John Spiros said the award “reflects the skill and values of our drivers, supported by a unique corporate culture.”

Diamond Transportation salutes top drivers  
        
Diamond Transportation has named Steve
Hayden (January), Phil Jostad (February) and Claude Morgan (March) as its Owner-Operators of the Month for the first quarter of 2007. Hayden has been part of the Diamond team since November 2005, Jostad joined Diamond in 1972, and Morgan has been with Diamond since December 2006.

Hill Bros. recognizes million-mile drivers

Hill Bros. recognized nine drivers and owner-operators who have surpassed the 1 million-mile mark. Lawrence Vandemark has run 2.5 million miles in 21 years with Hill Bros. Owner-operator Steven Grof has 2 million miles. Other honorees: Raymond Brooks, Brice Remus, Thomas White, Darwin Weinbrandt, Darron Strickland, Donald Crabbs and Mark Decker.

Jacobson raises pay  
      
Jacobson Transportation has added another pay increase to the many reasons to join the company. For company drivers, base pay increases by 2¢ mile for all miles loaded and empty. Regional company drivers now start at 35¢ per mile, and OTR company drivers start at 33¢ per mile. Last August, Jacobson raised owner-operator pay to 90¢ per mile and recently added another cent per mile, with more raises on the way.
