Plenty of reasons to say thanks

As we write these words in the first week of October, life appears to be good for over-the-road professionals. Freight is up, fuel prices are down and drivers are in demand as the number of driving jobs continues to outpace the supply of quality drivers.

Of course, any professional who has been on the road any length of time knows that things can turn around in a hurry. Heck, we’ve even heard stories of drivers complaining about falling fuel prices. It’s true. Kevin Rutherford, author of our “The Business of Trucking” column, says his owner-operator clients are actually unhappy when fuel prices fall because it can cost them money. For more, turn to page 42.

While the world does seem to be getting stranger and stranger every day, I'm sure we can all find something to be thankful for as the holiday season approaches. Certainly we can be thankful for our family and friends, and for their (and our own) health and happiness. And certainly we can be thankful for the brave men and women in the military who put their lives on the line every day so we can continue to enjoy our freedom here at home.

That’s what we will be thinking about on this Thanksgiving.
