The Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA) recently requested that the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) extend the impending registration deadline for Certified Medical Examiners (CME).
As part of earlier rulemaking activity, the FMCSA set requirements that CDL physical exams could only be performed by CMEs listed in FMCSA’s National Registry. The deadline for compliance is currently scheduled for May 21, 2014.
While the FMCSA had established a target of 40,000 CMEs in the registry by the compliance deadline, there were just over 10,000 signed up as of this writing.
