Majority of carriers have tested ELD’s; many have implemented
After a few major overhauls in the FMCSA’s plans, acceptance of electronic logbook technology is growing among carriers. Commonly referred to as black boxes, electronic logging devices (ELDs) and electronic on-board recorders (EOBRs) are the electronic replacements for the venerable paper logbook. ELDs and EOBRs are likely to become required equipment once new regulations debut later this year.
Penske Truck Leasing’s “Move Ahead” blog cites research estimating that 35% of all carriers use electronic logbooks and that 43% of large carriers have fully implemented the technology in each of their trucks. The research also shows that 70% of carriers have at least tested or are currently testing electronic logbook hardware.
