After a false rumor about a debut earlier this summer, Apple finally introduced the next generations (yes, generations with an “s”) of its iPhone. Earlier rumors had circulated regarding a down-market model to challenge lower-priced competitors, and that came in the form of the iPhone 5C. The 5C is pretty much the existing iPhone 5, but repackaged into a less-pricey chassis and available in a range of colors.
The much awaited iPhone 5S added a fingerprint scanner as an alternative to lock codes and iTunes passwords, while outwardly sporting a new color option, gold.
Both phones are expected to hit store shelves by September 20th, but if past experience is any guide, it may be a few weeks later before shipments catch up with demand. For full details, check out the launch event coverage on TechCrunch.
