The 2013 National Truck Driving Championship promised and delivered the safest truck drivers in the nation once again. There were 9 separate categories of drivers competing in 4 days of written tests, pre-trip inspection, orderliness, and of course: driving.
This year’s Bendix National Truck Driving Grand Champion is Gary Harms of Wal-Mart Transportation.
Gary was one of 422 drivers who had already won state competitions to reach the National Truck Driving Championship. Just two years ago, Gary Harms also placed 1st in the 4-axle class. Gary Harms has been driving for 30 years and has driven over 1.7 million miles. The competition remains tough and each driver must be at the top of his game.
Truck driving companies like FedEx, Con-way, and ABF Freight System can be proud that their ranks were well represented in the top tier bracket of winners.
A special congratulations to Bruce Renton of Holland Freight, who won Rookie of the Year. He has been in the industry for 13 years, but this was his first year to compete.
Congratulations to Gary Harms and the entire group of 422 drivers for exemplifying the safest and best drivers in the country. Keep up the great work!
To be a part of the 2014 National Truck Driving Championship, a driver must be accident free for an entire year working for the same company. Keep an eye out for state competitions and maybe the 2014 Bendix National Truck Driving Grand Champion will be you!
