In 2010, Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) was awed by the performance of rising country star Lindsay Lawler at Dallas’s Great American Trucking Show (GATS). Since then, Lawler has been working with TCA to bring awareness to the Highway Angel Program.
The partnership between Lawler and TCA is raising awareness to what real truck drivers do. These men and women are not just drivers; they are caring, thoughtful human beings that know the road better than anyone. Lawler has written many songs about trucking including “Highway Angel,” “For the Long Haul,” and “He Loves the Road.”
Lawler kicked off the 2013 Truck Stop Tour this week. The 26 show tour will make its stops at selected TA and Petro truck stops across the Midwest and Southeast. Fikes Truck Line is sponsoring this acoustical jam with a flatbed trailer to serve as a first class stage at each show.
The tour will be stopping in Dallas, Texas where Lindsay will return to her roots in her hometown at the GATS. Her show will be the center of attention at the House of Blues on Aug. 21, 2013. Lindsay will take the stage from 6:30-8:30 and will include a live broadcast on Renegade Radio Nashville.
The truck driving community is a tight-knit community that many outsiders do not understand. The efforts of TCA and Lindsay Lawler bring attention to the humanity that drives this nation. When someone sees the show happening on a flatbed trailer (one of the best places to play music, in my opinion) or has the opportunity to see Lawler in Dallas, they see a side of trucking that has hardly been reached since, perhaps, Alabama’s “Eighteen Wheeler.”
The Highway Angel Program aims to highlight truck drivers who have done good deeds along the road. This ranges from changing tires to saving lives. If you happen to see a truck driver doing something you think deserves congratulations and thanks, go to TCA’s website to complete the Highway Angel form.
